What is Dysport?
Dysport is an FDA-approved injectable neurotoxin made of botulinum toxin type A (similar to Botox). It is designed to stop the signals from the brain that cause the facial muscles to contract.
By stopping these muscles from contracting, dynamic lines and wrinkles will smooth and give you the younger-looking appearance you’re seeking. It is specifically approved for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines (also called glabellar lines) but it can be used “off-label” for forehead lines and crow’s feet as well. It has medical uses as well as cosmetic ones and has been approved to treat severe muscle spasms, neck pain, abnormal head position, and lower limb spasticity as well.
With only a few simple injections, you can turn back the clock on your skin and say goodbye to fine lines and wrinkles within a few days.
While Dysport and Botox are made of the same active ingredient, Dysport tends to show results much sooner than Botox.

Who is a candidate?
Almost everyone who is struggling with unwanted lines and wrinkles is a good candidate for Dysport injections. That said, there are some criteria we stick to for potential Dysport patients. You need to be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of treatment, be non-smokers, and be looking for a nonsurgical, minimally-invasive aesthetic treatment option.
If you have a history of allergic reactions to botulinum toxin products, this is likely not the right treatment for you.
During your consultation, we’ll go over your medical history, list of medications, and goals to determine if this is the correct cosmetic treatment for your needs.
What to expect?
Dysport treatment could not be simpler. We’ll start by cleansing the treatment area and marking the injection sites. If necessary, we can apply a topical anesthetic to help with comfort, but many patients tolerate treatment very well without it.
From there, your healthcare professional will prepare the injections and then use a very fine needle to administer the formula into the skin. How many injections you require will depend on the results you’re looking for. Treatment typically doesn’t take more than 10-20 minutes.
Aftercare
After your Dysport injections, you’ll likely experience some redness, swelling, and bruising, but those side effects will dissipate within a few days. Muscle weakness is another side effect, but it is much more rare. As there is no downtime, you can go back to your normal routine immediately.
As the formula takes effect, you will want to avoid touching or massaging the treatment area, strenuous exercise, and excess sun and heat exposure. You will also need to avoid lying down for a few hours so the Dysport can settle into the appropriate areas. Alcohol and smoking should also be avoided.
